I would highly recommend Ocean Sands to anyone that would like to experience a beautiful peaceful place to stay. This place has a wonderful view of the ocean and a large stone fireplace to be cozy by on those rainy days. My family came for a visit from the east coast and they wanted to experience our Oregon coast and this place fit the bill. It was perfect, they loved it my 96 year old Mom loved it and I loved it. I will never forget the wonderful time we had together at Ocean Sands! Thank You! Dorothy S.
My stay at Ocean Sands was restful and wonderful all the way around. The staff at Sunset/Ribbon were so friendly & helpful - and I was somewhat needy due to the fact that I was dealing with an acute ear problem. I was an hour late getting out & Jean, the housekeeper, was very accomodating even though she had other houses to clean. The care that went into cleaning that house had a huge positive affect, especially since my own house back in Portland was such a wreck. I hadn't thought about it before but a clean house really helps to clear the mind. I came back to Portland ready to tackle my long 'To Do' list....and I was inspired to deep clean my own house. I think the job I did would earn a decent grade from Jean. I'm not sure if I can afford it, but I am going to see if I can pull together enough pennies to rent a place by the ocean for the month of Jan. If I have solid internet, phone service with free long distance and quiet, I can pretty much work from anywhere. It might not come together, but I figure it's worth a try & it may be just what the doctor ordered for my ear. Thanks so much! I look forward to seeing you next year.
We had a wonderful time. Great location, charming cottage. We brought our own dining room table seating 4 and was glad that we did. A little tricky to work the VCR & DVD player. Overall we loved it and hope to return.Thank you!!!
It was wet and foggy when we arrived but even the weather could not dampen our spirits. The home was very accomodating and cozy, just perfect for our special anniversary getaway. Great location, within walking distance of all shops and neccessities and what a view! Staff at Suset Vacation Rentals were very helpful with any questions or concerns we had. Truly a delightful time and looking forward to booking our next visit in the area through SVR.
We love the location and will return, but think for the price they could provide better than the yard-sale kitchen equipment and dishes. A small dining table next to the window would be nice. The directions for the door latch are WRONG. We think you should send (and post) the following:First, Always lift the handle and hold it up while locking or unlocking from inside or outside.1. To open from outside: a. lift and hold handle b. turn key clockwise c. release handle, push handle down, enter2. To lock from outside: a. lift/hold handle b. turn key clockwise c. release handle3. To lock from inside: a. lift/hold handle b. turn knob counter clockwise c. release handle4. To unlock from inside a. turn knob clockwise (no need to lift handle) b. push down on handle
We loved the Oceanfront location. It was quiet, yet within walking distance to shops. We loved the beachy, low-key ambiance of the cabin. If you want something fancy and contemporary, this isn't the beach house for you. But for me, this was just as a beach house ought to be. I took off one star for the property's general condition because of the oven. It was pretty tricky. If you plan to use it for baking, I'd suggest baking at 50 degrees less than what you normally would. This oven turned our cinnamon rolls into hocky pucks at 25 degrees less than I normally cook them. Perhaps it's time for an updated oven....I took off one star for cleanliness only because all over the carpeted areas, there was some sort of pokey burrs tracked in from outside, I assume from previous guests because we took our shoes off when coming inside. We kept stepping on these burrs and hurting our feet! This tells me that perhaps the floor weren't vacuumed before we came. We finally got fed up hurting our feet and just vacuumed the floor ourselves. All in all, we had a great time and really loved this little cabin.
This cute little house is right across the street from the beach! It was absolutely perfect. It looks small in the picture, but it has a ton of room inside and an awesome deck! Loved it!
My husband and I loved the view which is all ocean. Though the house is situated across the street from the beach, the road is little used. Location wise, the little town of Manzanita is 3 blocks away and walking on the beach or up into town is a delight. This is a cozy house and the amenities are generous.
I love this old house, but the fireplace chimney neds a directional wind cap so the house doesn't fill up with smoke. Also, would like to see a usable shower in the hallway bath.
We totally loved it but I left my favorite pair of jeans in the Master Bedroom closet. Could these be mailed to me? I would be happy to pay for shipping and handling. Thanks for the wonderful stay in Manzanita!. We will be back.Sara Sayles
Great location on the beach Nice little funky place. Very comfortable. We'll come back.
The only reason for giving this property less than 5 complete stars was the lack of a table for cards/games, etc., and the City road that separates the house from the beach. It did not cause a problem, but no road would have been better. Great place ... would recommend it highly.
It is unreasonable not to have a table. I'm glad I read the reviews and brought one of our own. The kitchen supplies were better than reviews indicated, but yes, the stove could use replacing. Lovely views and overall a wonderful little cabin.
kitchen sink faucet needs to be replaced
Cute beach-funk cabin. Great bedrooms and baths; awesome shower. The kitchen is dated....lame oven/stove and no water pressure in the sink. No dining table....why???? NOnetheless, had a great time and enjoyed my stay here. beautiful view when cars parking on the street weren't blocking it. Again, enjoyed myself but won't rent this one again.
Fireplace: either brick up the fireplace, issue gas masks, or do something to improve the draw, like a wind cap. I've built a lot of fires--that was the smokiest. DVD player: It's pretty cynical to have a DVD player and a VCR but only one set of cables from one of those players to the TV screen. We tried to watch a movie at night (DVD), not knowing there was only one set of cables and they were hooked up to the VCR. We finally figured it out the next day. A sign would have been nice--even better, two sets of cables.I like rustic, that's not the issue. This place just isn't worth $434.00 for two nights (total with cleaning fee, non-refundable breakage deposit, pet fees, taxes). It needs work. We had a good time, the beach was beautiful--we'll be back to Manzanita but certainly not to Ocean Sands.
The house has beautiful picture windows that overlook the beach. There's a fair amount of traffic outside; bikes, cars, dogs, walkers, but the view is amazing. Especially when the kite boarders and kite surfers are out!My family and I have stayed here twice now and even though the amenities are older and pretty basic it has a nice feel.I would recommend others stay here.
The house was great. The beds however were really uncomfortable one was the type where you roll into the middle and the other on rolled you to the sides. The bed in the small room had ants. My guest had to actually take ants off her 4 mo baby that was sleeping with them. There is no dishwasher, but you can get around that. The location was amazing right across the road from the beach and the views were amazing!
Thanks for letting us know about the ants!! We immediately took care of this.
We brought our two little kids and love the location to the beach and to town. We like the layout of the house too. However, we only stayed two nights and felt like the additional fees/cleaning expenses were excessive. Coupled with the rules of doing all the laundry (and dishes), we were disappointed at the 30% mark up for cleaning fees and a non-refundable damage waiver. NEEDS appliance updates -a new stove and a dishwasher. otherwise clean and comfortable.
Our second time at cozy Ocean Sands. We had a great time watching the wind surfers, kite flyers, and walking on the beach. It's so close to town, too.
We love Manzanita. We love Ocean Sands beach house. It is time for a new range and range hood though. The ones that are there are gungy and are barely functional.
We had a comfortable stay and were able to relax and enjoy ourselves. The house was small and dark, but the location and view were perfect. The kitchen did not have a dishwasher so we bought paper products as we did not want to use some of their dishes or flatware. It would have been nice to have a little table for two in the little nook in front of the kitchen area window.
The condition of the property was generally good. It was really nice and clean. We found it to be very comfortable for our group. However there are just a few small items that should be noted. The blind in the living room doesn't go down. There was a broken (taped together) chair leg in the kitchen nook. As I said, these are small items, and could be repaired without much cost to the property owner, but they would make a big difference. We thought the kitchen could have been a little better furnished. The selection of pans was pretty limited to one size, and there were only soup spoons, not teaspoons. One other suggestion would be to use slightly higher wattage bulbs in the fixtures. We found it to be rather dim in the evenings. The location was just great. We could not have asked for a better view. All it all, it was a great vacation and we would recommend it to a friend.
We would love to have had better games and puzzles with all the pieces (or no puzzles) and missed things like books about beachy things, binoculars etc. There was not a fire laid when we arrived and I wished I'd had more info about how long it took to do the laundry
Our fourth summer renting in Manzanita and this house was not the same quality as other homes we've rented. The fireplace was awesome and the lounge chairs were a saving grace. There were plenty of clean towels and a nice shower in the master bedroom. But, the deck gets no sun and you have to bbq under the deck making it very unsocial. The furniture was really old and sandy. The beds were like sleeping on jelly fish (which isn't good). The house is at street level and people park directly in front of the house blocking the beautiful view. Although close to town, these other issues didn't measure up to the price of the house compared to other rentals we've made. Also, there is no dining table and the counter to eat at faces away from the ocean. We would recommend bringing your own knives and cooking tools as the ones in the house were very very old. We still love manzanita and will return, but will not rent this house.
Inadequate lighting. Shades on windows need repair, were not able to close some shades at night. No furniture in second bedroom to hold clothing or suitcase, only bed.
